We are privileged to have William M. Ferraro, Research Associate Professor and Managing Editor of The Papers of George Washington, University of Virginia, as our guest speaker. Most recently, the Washington Study Group has been focused on the Yorktown campaign and British surrender. Professor Ferraro wrote to us: “Washington was at his best coordinating the logistics of the march from the New York Highlands, through New Jersey, and southward to Virginia. Your group will be hearing the freshest documentary scholarship on GW and this period of the Revolutionary War, and a good part of it takes place right in your area.”

William M. Ferraro was born in Corning, New York, and grew up in South River, New Jersey. He completed an A.B. in American Studies at Georgetown University, and holds an A.M. and Ph.D. in American Civilization from Brown University. Prior to joining The Papers of George Washington at the University of Virginia in June 2006, he worked as an editor at The Salmon P. Chase Papers, Claremont Graduate School, California, and at The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Much of his independent research has evolved from his editing, and he has published scholarly articles and book chapters focused on Grant, Washington, James Monroe, and John and William Tecumseh Sherman. His numerous posts on nuances of Washington's correspondence and aspects of documentary editing can be found at washingtonpapers.org under the Blog tab.
